Foundation Wall Thermal Bridging Solution

Heat loss often occurs at foundation wall transitions, lowering the effective R-value of exterior walls. Since foundations are part of a building’s thermal envelope, areas where the slab meets the foundation wall and where the exterior wall connects to the foundation are common points for heat to escape. This is largely caused by interruptions in continuous insulation.

Foundation Wall Thermal Break

Using an effective structural thermal break can reduce linear heat loss at the base of the foundation wall by up to 60%. Armatherm™ 500 is a load-bearing thermal break available in multiple densities, offering different load capacities and R-values up to R 3.8 per inch.

Thermal bridging at foundation wall transitions can be further minimized by extending the slab insulation.
